In Conversation With….

Off of the back of the recent short interviews I did during my Local Music Shows on Carnival FM, as part of the live sessions, I have now started to film some longer interviews.

They are called ‘In Conversation With’, the idea being that they will, hopefully, be more of a conversation than the usual structured interview. They are also not bound by time, so typically last around 30 minutes each.

I am doing them in conjunction with ‘befilmed’, who you can find here:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdgpH6h8GNdE8BrJMNAuxxg

Incidentally, it was ‘befilmed’ who filmed and recorded the videos from those live sessions on Carnival FM recently. Those videos can also be found on their YouTube channel.

So far we have recorded 3 ‘conversations’, with several more planned. The aim is to feature local musicians, bands and others who have a connection with music in some way.

Some of the artists are also recording some acoustic songs for us at the same time, which will also be shared via the YouTube channel.

Why not subscribe to the channel to avoid missing any future ‘conversations’?

Here are the 3 ‘conversations’ recorded and uploaded so far.

Thanks for watching.

Trevor Moss and Hannah Lou

There have been many instances of musicians moving to the Hastings area in recent years. In fact I heard of another well known name, who’s just moved here, only the other day. I’ll leave you in suspense as to who it is….

One act who do now call St Leonards On Sea their home are husband and wife duo Trevor Moss and Hannah Lou. Having said that, they don’t seem to spend a lot of time in their new hometown, as they’ve been touring almost non-stop, with more dates to come in the near future.
In fact they have, literally, just returned from a tour of the USA and Europe with Tori Amos.

In October they go out on tour again, this time in the UK, supporting Danny and The Champions of the World.

If you want to see and hear why they are in such demand as a support act, they have a hometown gig this Sunday, 31st August at the Masonic Hall in St Leonards On Sea. On this occasion they will be the main act, supported by Dan Whitehouse.
I’ve not see Trevor Moss and Hannah Lou live myself, so will certainly be there for this gig. I did however play tracks from their 2012 album ‘La Ferme De Fontenaille’ on both Hastings Rock and Carnival FM recently and can heartily recommend that.

If all the musicians who decide to move to our area are in same class as Trevor Moss and Hannah Lou, I say keep ‘em coming.

Carnival FM – Local Music Videos

Our last post mentioned the Local Music Shows that I was going to present during this years Carnival FM broadcast.

Well, the shows went well and included nine different live sessions and interviews with local acts. All of these were both filmed and recorded and some of these are now available to be watched via YouTube.

To view the videos visit: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdgpH6h8GNdE8BrJMNAuxxg

More videos are being uploaded all the time and we hope to eventually have most of the songs and interviews, with all of the artists, available to view.

Here’s a taster of what you can see.

With the exception of the videos of Skinny Lister, all were filmed live during the shows.

If you missed them, here’s a list of the sessions that took place during the shows:

Monday – Skinny Lister + The Tabs

Tuesday – Louis Turpin and Roger Hubbard + The Moors

Wednesday – The Piercings

Thursday – Harry Osborne + Otti Albietz

Friday – Titus + Buddha Triangle

BeFilmed are also recording interviews with other local acts and people connected to the music business locally. So why not subscribe to their YouTube channel, so that you don’t miss anything.

Vote King Size Slim

Local bluesman Toby Barelli, aka King Size Slim, has been nominated in the Emerging Artist category of the British Blues Awards 2014, and you can help him win that prestigious award.

Anyone who has seen live, or heard, King Size Slim will know both how good his music is, and also how richly deserved this award nomination is.

So, to give Toby your vote visit this link: http://www.britishbluesawards.co.uk/vote.htm

The Emerging Artist category is the second from the bottom of the list. Voting is open until the end of June. We’ll let you know if he wins when the results are announced.

While you’re doing that, here’s an interview King Size Slim did recently for the Blues Magazine Show on Team Rock Radio:

Find out more about King Size Slim via his website at: http://www.kingsizeslim.com/

I had the pleasure of interviewing Toby during my Local Music Shows on Carnival FM last year, when he came into the studio to perform a live sesssion. Here’s a video of that interview and of one of the tracks he played live for us, ‘Angel Dear’.

Vote King Size Slim and help put Hastings onto the national musical map.

King Size Slim

I’m sure many of you Hastings folk will already be aware of the “Fat Roots Boogie” of Toby Barelli, aka King Size Slim, and if you’re not then now is the time to take notice.

This is a man who revels in live performances, something that is backed up by these figures from his website for 2012.
“146 shows, 13,972 miles travelled, 4 new tyres, 1 new gearbox, 98 sets of guitar strings, 12 harmonicas, 24 guitar picks, 6 thumb picks, 8 finger picks…..” See what I mean?

This year King Size Slim released his 3rd album ‘Milk Drunk’ (which I can heartily recommend by the way) and he has spent the year touring to share it with the world. The end of that tour brings him back home to the Brass Monkey in Hastings on Friday 25th October.

More details can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/351277308341290/

This gig see’s him performing with a band. But whether solo, or with that band, his live show is one well worth checking out. The energy of his performances and the infectious rhythms of his music can’t fail to get your feet tapping.

I had the privilege of interviewing Toby about his musical journey and seeing him perform an intimate live radio session earlier this year, during the course of which he managed to destroy a guitar case by stamping on it in time to his music!

So get on down to the Brass Monkey, or buy the ‘Milk Drunk’ album and see what all the fuss is about. I guarantee that you’ll not be disappointed.

Carnival FM Live Session Videos

As previously mentioned here, during my recent Local Music Shows for Carnival FM we took the opportunity to get some fine local musicians into the studio to be interviewed by myself and also to perform a few of their own songs and have some fun in the process.

We also took advantage of this to both video and record those interviews and live sessions. Well the results are now starting to appear on the Carnival FM YouTube channel, which you can find here: http://www.youtube.com/user/CarnivalFM/videos

Up to this morning 18 videos have been uploaded, with at least one from every performer/band included in that number. Those performers/bands are Blair, Poppy Prescott, Hana Christine, Mick Bolton, Logan Wilson, Dorey The Wise, The Kid Kapichi, King Size Slim, Steve Riv and Claire Hamill.

Why not go and check them out, there are some great and pretty unique performances amongst them. Here are a couple of those videos to whet your appetite:

Don’t forget that videos from last years live sessions on Carnival FM are also available to be watched on their YouTube channel. And there are still more to come from all performers from this years shows too, so keep checking.

Carnival FM Shows on Mixcloud

As I’ve mentioned before, I recently produced and presented a series of Local Music Shows on Carnival FM in Hastings.

Well, the first two of those shows are now available to listen to again, or for the first time, on Mixcloud.

The first show, which went out on Friday 2nd August featured a pre-recorded interview and live session with Claire Hamill, as mentioned in another recent post on the Pierless Music site.

The second show was originally broadcast on Monday 5th August and featured interviews and live sessions with both Blair and Poppy Prescott.

Links to both shows are below. The remaining Local Music Shows are planned to be uploaded in due course.

Don’t forget to check out the Carnival FM YouTube channel for videos of the interviews and live sessions that I did during the programmes. Once again, these are being uploaded gradually: http://www.youtube.com/user/CarnivalFM/videos

Claire Hamill – Interview and Videos

Well, the Carnival FM broadcast is now over, but even if you missed it there is still a way to experience at least a part of it.

During the course of the broadcast I presented a series of Local Music programmes, during which we had live sessions and interviews with ten different local acts.

One of those was Claire Hamill. Because of her commitments, we had to pre-record both her interview and live session. The benefit of this though was that the interview was able to be longer than those during the live shows.

Here is a video of that interview. We had planned to talk for around five minutes, but ended up talking for twenty nine!

After the interview Claire performed three songs, one of which was brand new.

Here are the videos of those songs. Enjoy:

Thanks to the guys at ‘Rock A Nore Productions’ for filming and editing the video footage.

More videos from the Carnival FM Local Music Shows are available on their YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/CarnivalFM/videos

Carnival FM

Carnival FM has just started its second broadcast. You can hear it locally now on 87.9FM and also via the Internet by going to their website at: http://www.carnivalfm.co.uk/

As with last years broadcast, I shall be presenting a series of Local Music Shows. They will be on weekday evenings between 6 to 8pm. The first one is today, Friday 2nd August.

During next weeks shows I shall be having some live sessions by local bands and artists. We are planning two sessions per weekday, one during each hour of the show. The only exception is Thursday, when there is live music outside the studio, due to the Old Town High Street Traders Party, so we’ll just have the one session that night.

All the shows will be podcasted afterwards, for those who may not get to hear the broadcast. We are also videoing the sessions and related interviews. These will be uploaded to the Carnival FM YouTube channel as soon as we can get them there.

In the meantime you can still watch some of last years sessions on the YouTube channel, which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/user/CarnivalFM/videos

We have also pre-recorded an interview and live session with Claire Hamill which will go out live during this evenings show. I may be biased, but it’s well worth listening to.

To get you in the mood the guys at Rock-A-Nore Productions made a promo video for the Carnival FM broadcast. You can watch that here:

Happy listening.
