I am grateful to have been associated with the pier through playing in groups. I started playing in a group in 1966 and am still at it. I played on the pier between 1963 and the late 1970s in The Confederates, Spyke and Suspect. The Confederates backed the Swinging Blue Jeans when the support group didn’t turn up. Suspect played with Garry Glitter and his Glitter Band.
I was also involved in the “revival party nights” in 1987, 1988, and 1989. These were fantastic and recaptured the early days of live groups on the pier. Joe Brown had a crowd of 1200 people which was probably over the number allowed by the fire brigade. It was however, a brilliant time for “would be” musicians.
I still play in a group (JINKS) and can’t think of a good reason to stop. Check out the web site.
